The Last Terrorist

February 18, 2007 Rahul Munshi 2 comments

Imagine a green Kashmir valley in a dusky backdrop, a terrorist is fleeing a millitary stronghold. He has several armed jawans in pursuit. He is penitent and impatient to convey to his love how sorry he is, that he was mistaken and misled and that he had been breeding hatred for what he should have loved. I wrote this the night before my IITJEE mains.

…..

The vermilloned west horizon beckons
so vibrant, yet so serene
and mocks in innocence
the shadows descended on
the valley and you and me.
The air(unusually heavy)
dissolves your smiles
up as they pop now and then,
like the feeble rebels
down the brook stream,
persistently bubbling up in vein.
You hear my heart speak
your eyes so firm, not brimming yet
neither anything they seemed to deny.
Your silence torments,
O lord unchain my soul, relieve me
before I am pierced by your first ‘why’

Believe me Noor, in Him I laid my trust
says Allah they said,
punishing infidels is my duty.
I obliged, hesitated not once until
I saw in your eyes
my corpse killed by the infidel in me.

Return now, its almost dark,
almost time for my last bye.
The marching boots are nearing fast.
Forgive me once,
from these heights shall I then fly.
